[Modset Update] Q1 Update: Spring Cleaning

Okay, so maybe it's still not quite spring yet, but anyway...

It's time for the Quarterly Update! The administration team has spent the last couple of weeks looking at various mods and determining whether or not they would be worthwhile additions to our server's modset. However, in the process, we realized many things:

  •  Many of our mods were found to be out of date, with some having not been updated for months
  •  Our method of hosting the mod packs (Google Drive) was found to cause corrupted data, which contributed to join issues and even unintentional bans
  •  The structure of the mod packs wasn't very well organized due to a lack of proactive planning
  •  The mod installation and activation process was not very user-friendly, and almost always required help from an existing member, as well as plenty of troubleshooting

Because of these reasons (and more), we felt the need to re-compile, re-organize, and re-imagine the way in which new and old members alike obtain mods and updates. As such, all members will be required to use Arma3Sync to manage their mods, in order to simplify the mod installation process and make it easier to troubleshoot.

Furthermore, our modset has been divided into 5 separate packs (including the quarterly additions and removals, which can be found in the changelog below):

These packs will be activated on the server on Friday, February 20th, 2015. If you have not installed the packs by this date you will not be able to join the server.

Due to the vast differences between these new packs and the old ones, the old packs will no longer be supported. All members will be required to delete their current Black Watch International mods and complete a fresh install of ALL of the above packs.

Included with each mod pack is an instructional text file as well as text files that list the contents of each @folder. Even if you are an existing member who has installed mods before, it is important to follow these instructions.

(Note: If you download the packs before they are live on the server, it is recommended that you store them outside your Arma 3 folder until the activation date, as Arma3Sync may otherwise load new mods instead of old ones if they share the same folder name. You may delete your old mods and activate your new mods if you wish, though you will not be permitted on the server until the official activation date.)

We in the administration feel that these changes will drastically improve gameplay on the server, and we hope that you're just as excited as we are to try them out!

  • Server-Side Only

  • Map Changes
    • Default time for all maps has been adjusted from Sunrise to 8:00 AM
    • The Zeus slots have had their class switched to 'Medic' so that they can benefit from quicker treatment times.
    • All "default factions" on each map (the factions players intially spawn as) have been reverted to the vanilla factions to prevent future conflicts.
    • Each map's OPFOR and INDEP factions now follow Black Watch International's Platoon Structure, and have been given their own Virtual Ammoboxes.
    • The VAS Interface has been updated; it is now larger, easier to read, and has a built-in camera view feature.
    • Duplicate, bugged, and otherwise undesired items are now blacklisted fromt he VAS and will no longer appear. Removed items can still be found in the Arsenal. This list is subject to change.
    • The small amounts of fog that were previously in each map by default have been removed.
    • 'The Entity', while having enjoyed its time with us, has had to move on to haunt others. Goodbye, old friend.
